I believe most, if not all, of the different A1 models have different
u-joints, including the differences between the Scirocco Mk1 and Mk2. On top
of this, I believe that each model has a different u-joint for power
steering and manual steering.
Long ago when switching my RIP 16v from power to manual steering at Peter's
place we had a collection of between 6 and 10 different u-joints. Only the
u-joint for a Mk2 Scirocco with manual steering could be used to do the
switch. No Mk1, Rabbit, Caddy, etc. u-joint would fit.
We may be blessed by the VW system of using a limited number of chassis, but
we are also cursed by this as well.
