Engine pull surprise...

The weather has been a little cooler than usual over the last two
days, so I set out to finish stripping the last bits off of the
wrecked 16v and get it the hell out of my parking spot. I also need
the entire power steering system to swap into the mTDI Caddy before
the engine goes in (soon!). Everything was going smoothly, and I was
actually having a good time of it. I was even labeling the entire
harness, and taping off any hose or orifice to keep crap out. The
engine was clear of anything attaching it to the chassis, so I started
to remove the front and rear engine mounts before hooking up my
Cheapass(R) engine brace. Good thing I came in from the side to
unhook the rear mount cause this happened:

There was quite a bit of bent and twisted metal around the tranny
mount area, so I didn't notice the problem beforehand... In the pic,
the only things holding the engine/tranny up on the driver's side were
the power steering lines (of course the ones I needed for the Caddy!)
So to the tranny experts of the list, can I just swap out the 5th gear
cover with another, or are they "matched" to the tranny?
Amazingly, the mint Earl's oil cooler survived the accident (also
going on the Caddy):
