Valve Adjustment Tool / Shim source?

Ok, I need to check / adjust valve clearances on this '80
Scirocco with a stock 1.6.  This is uncharted territory for
me...  Does anyone know where I can get my hands on a valve
adjustment tool?  Or better yet, a way to use ordinary
tools to do the adjustment?

And of course I may need shims.  I have one spare 1.6
around here that is going away within the next week, but
there's no gaurantee that it's got the shims I need.
