Strut protection?

Boots are a good idea only if you are in an arid part of the country, which if memory serves, you aren't. In moist climes they are a place for condensation to build, which will only rust the shaft eventually.
IMO, the reason why KONIs go is through hard abuse, not so much dirt. Drive it easier and see what happens.
