Manifold tubes are plastic?!?

OK, first "F*@K" for the day.

Charging battery, re-installing injectors, before diving into timing
(motivation: lasagne for dinner, but not until I can really say I have
accomplished SOMETHING on Gisele). I am motivated and armed with pictures
(thanks Dan Bubb. I always need pics to point me in the right direction).

Putting last injector in (one closest to passenger side). Goes in fine, but
I can pull it back out with little pressure. Look down and there is some
borwn piece of plastic. Huh? It's about 1/3 of the little plastic shield
thingie going into the manifold tube. "F*@K, F*@K, F*@K" I already tried
super glue-ing back (yes, I have learned super glue, black electrical tape
and duct tape can be your best friend with these cars, and mine doesn't even
run yet) and it just keeps popping loose.

So, here's the question: is this really important piece of engine? I have
ZERO interest in having to get a whole new manifold part thing and having to
take this stuff apart and replace it for one stupid little piece of plastic.

Hoping for a positive response on this while looking at the timing,
Lexan
