Yeah, man, there are plenty of other ways to make a difference. A lot
safer ways. Like I did soon after 9/11 by working with *** in trying
to track ppl down online. Was very safe (except for the part where I
was walking to work from the DC Metro stop through Chinatown at 1am
and the little park on the corner was full of people I'd rather not
meet after dark. Carried my umbrella at the ready!) AND I _was_
helping. Your military experience can play a big role in this. One
of my coworkers was ex-Navy and he was in charge of my company's
IT/network. Think private sector/gov't contractor. If you have
clearance, that can get you in almost any door in the DC area. Almost
more important than job experience, IMO.
I guess what I'm trying to say is: think outside the box on this one.
You can make a difference and you can do it without putting your life
on the line again.
Besides, do you really want to get back in bed with someone after you
just spent like a year painfully extracing yourself from them?
