VW Eos
I went down to see my sister today (she's home from school for the
weekend) and when I arrived at mom's she told me that the plates for
the GTI had arrived at the dealer. This was, of course, after I
hugged her, told her I loved her, and thanked her for the awesome
gift. I do this everytime I talk to her. The appreciation of the
gift will never end.
ANYWAY, off to the dealership I went. After getting my plates I
talked with a salesperson about the Eos. Cool little car, but
certainly not agressive enough looking for my tastes. I watched it
open and close (the roof) and it was quick and easy. Unlike most
covertables, it locks itself in place and the driver must do nothing
other than hold the switch. But the really cool thing, IMO, was that
the front section also doubled as a sunroof. Very big opening and I
liked that. What I didn't like was that even tho I told her that I
had a new car (she saw the GTI) she went right into sales mode when
showing me the Eos. Is there no "OFF" button for sales people?
OT: While waiting for the plates, we chatted and I mentioned the
Scirocco. "You actually have one of those?!?" Like they didn't exist
or something. I said "Yeah, I have an '86 16v" and I pointed to the
Scirocco hat on my head. I also mentioned I love everything about the
GTI "except one thing." "Oh yeah? What's that?" "It's not a
Scirocco." I asked if VW was going to actually release the new one or
if it was just a concept. Her reply: "How do you know about that?"
Like it's a big secret. "Come on," I said, "I own one, you think I
wouldn't know about the new one?" She said "You must read the
vwvortex." I laughed and said that and a few others. Not much more
was said about it, but it made me think: The salespeople don't really
give a shit about VWs past, unless it helps them sell a new car. They
had a very nice '72 conv. Bug in the showroom (big sign in front
window of said Bug: "Not for sale"). But it's like she didn't give a
shit about the Scirocco. Kind of bums me out, but I figured she's
just doing her job and trying to make money. She asked at one point
if I would bringing the GTI there for service, oil changes, etc. I
said 1) I live about an hour north and 2) I do my own oil changes
(That's right you salty weasel, er... Night Hawk, or wahtever you
were... lol) so, NO, I won't. She acted shocked that I change my own
oil, like no one ever does that. I don't like salespeople and she
helped reinforce that. Oh well.
One other thing, the Eos I saw was listed at $35K I think, with the 6
speed, super stereo, etc. I'd rather have the GTI.
Speaking of which I love driving it and it just makes me want to bring
the Scirocco back to life and as close to new as I can. I'd love to
see how one handles when it's running like it should (suspension,
etc., not just engine). The GTI has also made me realize I need to
turbo that thing. I've been happy with the stock power, but now that
I've tasted more...
