I had a 97 Jetta, 2L 8V ABA engine. Bought it new and sold it around 60k 
miles. Replaced tires, brake pads and exhaust (live in WI) only. No 
problems, always ran smooth. Never saw a repair shop. Had very good 
resale. It wasn' t a fast car, but a good family car.
