David, you are correct.  The 9A was in the Passats for the model years
1990, 1991 and 1992.  I have no idea what a 24F is.
Next, if you are looking for a 2.0l 16V motor have you tried looking
locally for a whole Passat?  The automatic transmissions are notorious
for failure and when people find out how much it is to replace it they
just want to get rid of it.  I have seen a few in the $300 range...
