speaker installation - preserving mk1 door panels

in my 78, i have original speakers with a small 4 inch or so flush  
speaker grill.  i have some 5.25 inch speakers that have a small, but  
not flush speaker grill.  mounting depth isn't an issue.  i don't  
want to, but will consider enlarging the actual speaker opening in  
the door to accomodate the larger magnet, etc.  does anyone have any  
thoughts how to do the least damage to the door panel?  does anyone  
have 5.25 speakers installed  that don't interfere with the door  
handles?
