Tuneup Q's

I've never given my Scirocco a tuneup - it's still on the same plugs/wires
etc that it had since I bought it - I've been of a "If it ain't broke" kind
of mind about it.
On the other hand, the Jetta that I'm planning on using as my daily driver
clearly needs a tuneup. It has a bit of a misfire at large throttle
openings in the lower part of the RPM range for any given gear.
I'd like some reccomentations for parts.
I've heard that NGK copper plugs are pretty good, Brian Page feels they are
better than BOSCH. I've also heard it's best to stick with Bosch plug
wires. Neither potterman or adirondack seem to offer those; does anyone
reccomend the 'Eurosport' plug wires at pottermans? THey come in different
colors - is that just an underhood style issue?
Um... how about this - just tell me what's on your shopping list for when
you do a tuneup!
Since the Scirocco shows no signs of needing anything, is it best to leave
well enough alone, or should I replace things as a precautionary measure?
Wow, that's a lot of questions. I know this list is up to the challenge!
TIA,
GP
