water in the tank? (still no start)

   okay, so i replaced the main pump in the '85 last night. got back it 
and, lo and behold, the car started up. i took it around for a drive and 
parked it. the gf took it to work this morning. no problems. she was 
going to put gas into after work but...the car would not start. on a 
whim, i threw a new transfer pump at the car. no go.
   i'm now wondering if i have water in the tank. i had the car jacked 
up last night so the fuel was on the left side of the car. now that it 
sat for a while i'm thinking it may have separated. does this sound 
logical? is there any good way to pump out a tank? anyone have any 
ideas? thanx.
