Is the 16V an interference engine??

Okay, here's one, is the damage usually restricted to the head, or do the
pistons get damaged/ I've only ever heard people speak of valves, not, for
example, the "ventilated crankcase mod" I've seen on a TD block. THAT is
really big bucks.
