Transmission gurus: Does this gear look right?

Neal,

This gear looks perfect to me.  You heard right that the notch should be there... the notch should
be on every tooth in the exact same location.  You would see more defined chips in the teeth if
foreign material worked its way around inside the gearbox.

I think these notches are there for either noise reduction and/or lubrication reasons.  Just my
best guess.
