canada
I think Tonee was referring to a different Marc/k when he hinted that he
respond. I'll take a stab at it none-the-less.
Last month I crossed the border between the US and Canada 6 times on my trip
to Alaska. It was easy 5 of the 6 times. Being from the US they will ask for
proof of citizenship when entering Canada. I used my passport and use of a
passport will soon be required, but I think you can still get through with
drivers license and birth certificate. They will ask you what is the purpose
of your visit and how long you plan on staying. Answer truthfully and for
heaven's sake never even hint that you could earn $0.01 CAD or USD while on
the other side! Be clear that you are NOT there for any business reasons!
Don't take any/many/much alcohol or cigarettes in and don't take any
weapons! I'm sure that you can bring in weapons if you know exactly what you
are doing and you have a very good purpose (like a hunting rifle with firing
pin removed with obvious hunting trip plans scheduled) but don't bring guns,
knives, crossbows, etc. in if you can help it.
On my 6th and final border crossing the US border patrol storm troopers did
not like the cut of my jib and locked me in a room, searched me, and
searched my car while I was locked in the room. I was not happy with not
being able to see what was going on with my car, but I had no choice. I'm
just thankful they did not cut up the carpet and doors as they do on rare
occasions!
Of the 8 times I've ever crossed the US/Canada border the Canadians have
always been terrific, and the US folks have been stern assholes all but one
time when they were royal assholes.
