Has anyone here ever imported a car from Europe?

I am wondering where I can find info on cost to import/ease of doing so and 
what problems would pop up,
besides the obvious bumpers, lights etc stuff.  I am aware there are some 
sort of agents that can handle
the whole thing for you-what are they called and is this the best way to 
go?  I've seen some of the pages
posted to the list before on this subject, but these links to gov sites and 
the rules can be difficult to make
sense of.
