Suspension Geeks: Strut mount question
I have to admit I'm curious about this whole thing because my 16V with H & R springs sits low enough in front that it's sitting on the bump stops and as a result rides like crap.
So, at some point I'll be rounding up a set of A2 struts and laying them out next to A1 parts and seeing what needs to be done. I don't mind spending money on my 84, but the 16V should have been sent to the junk yard, so I'd like to come up with a cheap way to get that little bit of extra front suspension travel while keeping the car at it's current ride height. Maybe cheapassed A2 inserts and housing adapted to the A1 chassis. We'll see.
I'm not sure why this is even on the table for the H & R coilovers though. The coilovers completely replace the stock strut housing. I'd have to assume that they'd be engineered to have sufficient travel bearing in mind the amount of drop they provide. There are several guys on the list with H & R coilovers. What's the scoop on this?

> Concerning long (A1) vs. short (A2) struts, your problem is that your long struts can't get short enough to give you the travel you want, so you are trying to modify the mounting to give more space for your long strut. The other approach to elongating the space for the strut is to shorten the strut. So the A2 shorter struts will help.
