The purpose of platinum in the manufacture of spark plugs is to prolong the
plug's life; platinum will not spark-erode as quickly as the more common
nickel alloys. They should foul no more or less quickly than any other plug
of the same heat range and should be suitable in any type of ignition.

It looks as if that's a platinum plug. Even if it physically fits,
conventional wisdom (among the Mercedes gurus, anyway) is that you
don't use platinum plugs in anything older than 1992. Poor idle is
the main complaint when used with older ignitions. I'm not sure what
the collective opinion and experience is re: VWs.. but I'm sure you'll
get it.
