H4 HID Conversion

I installed a Bi-Xenon kit in a set of Hella H4 headlights.
Do I still need the shield inside the headlight?
I think all H4's have the metal shield in the center, and I think it's there
so you don't blind on-coming traffic.
The modified HID bulb has a shield around it and the shield rotates to
switch between low and high beam.
It looks similar to the one on the left:

I have to pretty much destroy the shield, to get it out of the headlight
housing, that's why I figured I'd ask around first.
I guess I could use another H4 headlight, that's not brand new, and being
used.
Thanks!
