I've heard you can spray the wires with a spray bottle of water, in the 
dark, with the car running.  If you can see sparks or a light show from 
the wires, they're bad.
The PO had the distributor replaced with a good used one, but if mine 
turns out bad, I'll let you know.

And I've heard 16v wires are spendy, I haven't priced them yet.
