There is a well known problem with many Bosch starters concerning
inadequate voltage supply to fully activate the solenoid.
Particularly a problem with automatic VWs, but does affect any number
of cars that use the Bosch starters.
The Bosch kit to rectify the problem is numbered WR-1, but you can
google the schematic on a number of web pages. It's just a 5 pin
relay and some wires. I added one to my car. Same basic benefit as
relaying headlights since it supplies a "clean" 12 volts to the
solenoid. Might be worth a try. GL
