I would disagree with Senor Cheapass on this one (no disrespect
intended). I hate Helicoils, mostly because they let go over time.
There is a company called Dyna that makes an outfuckingstanding insert I
would use instead. They are NOT cheap, but they are the shit. Instead
of a spring (Helicoil), you would install a solid-metal insert. It
looks like a little cup, with threads inside (the original stud is
designed to thread into it), and out. What makes this the shit is there
are tiny little fingers at four spots on the outer circumference. Once
you screw it home, you hammer these fingers flush, locking it in place
and destroying the threads that got it there. It is now part of the
head forever!
I think different parts of the country really suffer from corrosion, and
in some parts this may be necessary. Down here in Okiehomie, it's not
an issue though....
