The New Polo GTI
And I would love to buy a new Polo to go back and forth to work in.
The market is ripe with the fuel prices for VW to send them to the
states.
But we all know about VW's marketing decisions...

Have you worked on an American light truck type of vehicle lately? Just
because they still use a rear diff, solid rear axle and longitudinally
mounted engine, doesn't mean they're primitive otherwise. There is a
serious amount of electronic control on these, independent suspensions,
etc... They do not get great mileage compared to a little car but the
mileage they do get considering their size and weight is astounding
compared to what we had a couple of decades ago..
With that said, I have to stress that I do NOT drive my big pickup
unless I am towing or hauling something that will not fit in my VW.
That is what a truck is intended for.

LOL! The original accord was slightly larger than a Scirocco. The
Fiesta was
slightly smaller than the Rabbit.
SUVs are an example of incredibly successful marketing - convincing a
significant portion of our population that they "need" an SUV, which in
reality
most people don't need. ;-)
It is probably not a cooincidence that U.S. automaker's largest profit
margins
(by far)come from the low-tech trucks and SUVs.

and they would be correct, trucks and SUVs outsell
everything else here in the US. that is why small
cars like the polo were never sold here. ford tried
with the polo-sized fiesta in the late 70s, but
americans prefer accord/passat sized sedans, not
polo-sized hatchbacks.
