So I drained the oil and yanked the oil cooler. Oil
was normal and not diluted; hence, no coolant to speak
of what being forced into the oil system. It *was*
oil into the cooling system, however.
Oil cooler - just no way to check this aspect of it,
because it would be the oil being forced into the
coolant passage and that is high pressure. I filled
the coolant passage with old coolant but none would
leak out of the oil passages. Not surprised; that
would take some pressure and I can't provide that.
Cleaned up the head and block deck - they were pretty
awesome. Head gasket was primo. Could not find any
cracks in the head and checked for warpage - NONE. It
checked out very nice, as a matter of fact. Not sure
what else a shop would do to the head to check it?
So I am left to think it MUST be the oil cooler. What
else could it be? I'd really like to get a
known-to-be-good, used oil cooler and slap that up
there. Not sure if a shop can check out an oil cooler
or not for integrity. Not really even worth the money
to have that checked, I wouldn't think.
