I say go for the headers. I had some 4-1 style break on me once...can you
say loud?... but there was no flex joint, so it was really only a matter of
time.
Yes, there are several companies who make them with a cat flange.
Yes, the flex joint can mean life or death for some headers.
I would recommend 4-2-1 for several reasons:
With 4-2-1 you don't lose as much low end tork
The design helps flow, strength, and noise
They will be a little louder than a mani...not at the tailpipe, but at the
motor... kinda like a butchered airbox does for intake noise. The coating
may help that slightly, and will help with scavenging and such.
The good ones are from the same familiar names, TT, Autotech, etc... I would
say contact Peter at The Scirocco if you don't get the one you mentioned.
You can also get a cat w/out a flange, and just slip it over the end of the
header pipe/flex joint.
Did I mention that a flex joint is essential for longevity? Good motor
mounts never hurt either.
Just my 2, hope it helps... Jeff
