fuel pumps in series?

i have the wiring for it - would i need to rig a fuse for a negative  
lead also?  i already built a fused lead for the + terminal bridging  
to the main pump.

(also thoroughly cleaned the - terminal on the battery with contact  
cleaner and wire brushes)
