negative battery cable question

OK, so I removed my old negative ground cable today.
It attaches to the frame underneath the airbox.
However, there is a second attachment point at the
very end of the cable (the midpoint has a secondary
attachment that meets the frame under the airbox).
Anyhow, this end attachment - the end of the cable -
was not attached to anything. Which might explain -
possibly - my somewhat lameass voltage meter readings.
Not counting on it.
Get to the question, Phil!
>>> WHERE does this end attachment hook up to? <<<
I believe it attaches somewhere on the tranny, but the
eyelet at the end of the cable is smaller than either
of the through-bolts for the tranny mount. So that
kind of rules that out. I saw no other points on the
tranny that seemed appropriate.
