Scirocco-l Digest, Vol 3, Issue 120
You are still chasing a lack of power under acceleration, right? You
probably mentioned this earlier, but can you fill me in as to the systems
you are working with? Is this straight CIS, CIS with Lambda (has frequency
valve by the fuel distributor), or CIS-E (no warm-up regulator)? What are
your symptoms now?
As some have probably already mentioned, vac leaks won't have any impact on
WOT, but will affect idle. You could be looking for air leaks between the
fuel distributor and throttle body. Most common of these are the big rubber
boots at either end of the big plastic intake tube. You may have to pull
them off to find the leak. Little air leaks around the base of the fuel
distributor may not have much impact.
What were the results of previous testing? If it is straight CIS or CIS
with Lambda, system and control fuel pressures are critical. CIS Lambda
relies on the frequency valve, but does not need the O2 sensor to run
right. If there is a frequency valve and it is not buzzing, that is your
problem. CIS-E relies on the DPR mounted on the side of the fuel
distributor and does need a good O2 sensor to send the correct amount of
current to the DPR. When all else fails, you can also try another fuel
distributor. They don't go bad very often, but they are about the only
thing on the system that can really only be tested by replacement.
You mentioned knock sensor ignition. Does it have advance retard systems in
the distributor or is it all electronic?
Hard to help from long distance, but I'm glad to try.
