WAS:Rear Brakes LockingNOW:Brake Pedal Gets stiff in the rain

I kind of got sidetracked by the whole rear proportioning valve thing, so 
now it's time to get back on track.  Have you checked your pads on the 
rear?  If you are down to the backing plates you could be over extending 
the caliper pistons and they will stick then, causing the brakes to lock 
up.  I had this sort of happen to a Scirocco of mine long ago.  Except when 
I pulled  the wheel to check it out there was no pad on the inboard 
side.  I had never seen anything like that, but figured the po screwed up, 
or had a shitty garage work on it, until....about two months ago my 
sister's GTI has the same problem.  I knew she needed her rear brakes done 
as I had checked them some time before.  When I pulled one of the rear 
wheels there was a pad missing.  WTF, how the hell does one fall off?  My 
brother in law said something was wrong with the front too, so I checked it 
out and she was missing one there too.  Needless to say she has two damaged 
caliper pistons.  Has anyone ever seen this happen?  I've now seen 2 
definite ones that I know wore away or fell off and a possible third(the 
Scirocco).
