If someone on the list winds up with this car, get in touch with me as I  can 
help out with some experience that I have picked up over the past few  years 
putting together a Stage II Callaway Turbo kit and installing it on a  Rabbit 
last year. It sounds like that turbo is going to need a rebuild. None the  
less, that car sounds like a sweet project for someone who wants some old school  
boost.
