Alternator upgraded

My tired 55 amp unit was starting to howl on startup.  After a couple
of weeks prowling Ebay and looking at a bunch of alternator cross
references, I found a newly rebuilt 90 amp unit from an Audi 80.
Paid $48 including shipping.  BTW, I found that this site is quite
helpful if you are chasing compatible parts across the Audi-VW car
lines.  http://rockauto.com  Dialup users beware.. it loads a huge
catalog.

Had to re terminate the existing wiring to ring terminals and I ran a
new 8awg charge line to the battery.  Also added a couple of grounds
between the alternator and body and valve cover stud to coil bracket
on the firewall.  Result is that even with the lights, wipers, heater
fan, radio, and rear window defogger on, my voltmeter no longer reads
in the red zone!
