wiring up a coil

On my 84 rabbit gti, I disconnected the coil, thinking I would remember which colored wire goes where. Of course I didn't and now I can seem to guess the correct combonation to wire it back up. Can anyone tell me which color wire goes where? Or a way to tell with a circuit testor or something? Also, my Blaster coil just has a pos. and neg. pole while my Bosch OEM one has 3 poles on each side. Are they still just pos. and neg.?
