Normally, the key code is on the door handle itself, but you will be SOL if both handles have been replaced. As I understand it, it is indeed on the rear cylinder too. Kind of a pain to remove in comparison...
I work at a dealership here in OK, and we cannot cut or order a key cut to a key code but there may be dealers able to do this, I don't know... However, most competent lock shops, in my experience especially the ones that deal with German cars, can cut a key if you remove your door handle and give it to them. They can then 'reverse-engineer' the cut of the key. This is the best way to copy a key, as it will not be worn like the original you use every day...
There is a term lock shops use to describe this. If you explain what you need, they should understand and be able to help you...
