NOW: Old Online (My hippie bus)

BBS'es aren't quite dead. I used to play MUDS when I was younger and now am into MegaMud, a mud with scripts. Perfect for those who don't have the time or patience to kill 8000 rats per level. MegaMud is hosted through World Group and thus BBS'es, along with the old standby, TLORD. I used to host a BBS for awhile to run MegaMud, but my ISP wasn't real crazy about me running a server (even though it takes a miniscule amount of bandwidth) and put an end to it. Now I have a new ISP and could run one, but can't find the updated software.

Aside from BBS'es, I didn't venture online much except to play Warcraft (the first one) over dial-up with a friend of mine. Aside from the challenges of getting both computers to talk to each other without using an ISP, it worked pretty well!

P.S. I was just thinking, this old 'back in the day computer geek' stuff sure does come up often. I always picture old cowboy-types, yanking on their Wranglers' belt loops to pull their pants up to their beer gut and going, "Boy, back in ma day, all we gots was an abby-cuss and a length o' tin wire."

Oh yes...I was "online" back then. BBSing and the like. Thats why when I
first joined the list back in 96 I was still using my old BBS handle
"NightShadow".

I watched the BBSs die slowly, as they all started to interconnect....many
of them just became ISPs in the end, the BBS system long expanded and
integrated into what we now know as the Internet.

Funny, the popularity of forums now a days...so much like the BBS systems
of the early 90s. (you log in, read messages posted, send PMs, basically
the same thing a BBS was).

Do you guys remember MOO's and MUD's some of them are still around like Uminho, MOOsaico in Portugal (the first moo) Wich I was a part off and from time to time go back and visit.

I tis funny how things have changed since then and how some are essentially the same, but under a new skin like Eric mentioned. Oh and to answer Cathy, I was plugged in in 93 (reluctanly at first)

Cheers,

El Tony
