Question about pass-side motor mount placement on a 86.5 16V

The mount should be pressed into the bracket so the "V" is right side up
when it is installed on the car.
It's important that the other mounts are adjusted correctly when replacing
the PS mount.
The whole engine should be moved side to side if necessary so the rear mount
does not have any lateral distortion. The side mounts are then tightened
down. Then the rear mount is tightened and lastly the front mount.
That sequence will put minimum stress in the rubber mounts and should kill
any vibrations.
Of course, if you have poly mounts or even a VW motorsport rear mount you
should expect some vibration.
I don't believe overly tight v-belts will make any noise except silently
screeming "ow! ow! ow!" as they go around ;^)
And overly tight timing belt will produce a whining noise whose pitch will
increase directly with RPM.
If your mount is right side up I'd check the adjustment of all the mounts.
Dan
