Alternator bolt question

This is on the Cabby, which is a Scirocco without doubt.

I'm trying to get the alternator off without shearing the lower bolt. It
extends through the housing of the alternator, and I always snap them.

First, it's an allen head, right? Not a Torx?

Second, any trick to removing the lower bolt in one piece? It's not
budging, and I have a pretty good idea how much twist it'll take before
breaking, I'm pushing my luck. (It's being Kroiled, heck, I may as well
soak it a while, nobody's open on the weekend anyway)

I still have the belts on, would I be further ahead to slack off the AC
compressor and remove the belt/try to wiggle the whole alternator? I'm
pretty tired of cars right now.

Here's the tally:
03 Protege 5 :$1050 front end damage from a racoon (#2 this year)
99 New Beetle: In "little Mexican truck mode" with yesterday's exhaust pipe
deletion, needs a suspension/skid plate
90/87 Jettas: Neither really trustworthy, the son's handiwork
87 16V: Not even saying it, but it runs fine. There, I said it.
79 Rocc: No brake lights, leaking oil, and the never ending misfire from
hell...
88 F150: Well, the son has it, it's probably dead by now.
88 Cabby: No chargy, tow trucky last trip

That pretty well sums up the 8 with plates. I could accept it if I didn't
work constantly to keep them all happy. Friggin ungrateful things.

Anyway, help me out with the bolt if you have tips...
