silicone removal

   After a brief encounter with silicone caulking, I found out (the hard
way) that it did not properly stick to the plastic, but did stick to the
metal. Other than chemicals, does anyone know of a way to remove cured
(but flexible) silicone from painted metal WITHOUT ruining the paint or
metal? Thanx.
