more voltage problems



David,
In this particular case Derrick is running a TEC II, so I don't know that 
your comments apply.
OTOH, I agree with you and I've heard that it can damage the alternator to 
disconnect the battery with the engine running.
Don't remember where I heard this, might be in the Bentley as a warning, or 
it might be an old out of date thing.
All I know is I wouldn't do it.

As Patrick said, I'd check the regulator brushes.
