What grade sandpaper to use

Subject: What grade sandpaper to use

Just got a set of Euro bumpers and would like to know what grade of
sandpaper I should use before painting them.  I guess also knowing what
paint to use wouldn't be a bad question either.  They will be painted black.

Or rather then paint, should I try some foreverblack?
