While I was in college I worked for "Brown" at the hub in town in the
evenings as a "Feeder-Loader." This job consisted of unloading one truck
on to the belts where sorters picked and routed packages where other
feeder loaders were stacking the left overs in trucks heading to other
hubs for the same process there. Lets just suffice it to say that
"brown" is not the most gentle way to ship anything. EVERYTHING gets
thrown, tossed, dropped, squished, banged... You get the idea.
While working there I learned several things, but the two most important
were:
1. NEVER send anything fragile or breakable with them.
2. I can now pack anything like a mo-fo. You'd be surprised how much
stuff can fit into trunks when you pack leaving no air. Bad thing is I
get the call when family moves that I am loading the U-Haul.

Called and talked to Kristen today about some parts I ordered a few
weeks ago and just realized I never got. Apparently the tracking notes
from UPS reveal that they first lost the package then recovered it,
decided that the antifreeze leaking from it was a hazardous material and
threw the whole package away. Lovely. I can only hope that there was a
VW enthusiast working at the UPS place who raided the dumpster and got
himself some free parts. Kristen didn't expect any trouble getting UPS
to step up and fork over for a new box O' parts.
The question of the day is... How exactly do you screw up a well-packed
box so badly that a container of anti-freeze gets broken. There must
have been some little brown men covered in pink (i.e. G12) running all
over the place.
