Power Steering Help Needed

Nah you don't have to, Brian's secret coming you way.

1) Buy spare 18mm wrench (should be the size of the fitting) if you can find
it get a cheap 6 point box end stubby. The reason I say cheap is you want to
bend the 4degree angle out and make it straight. If you don't want to waste
a good stubby go to AZ and get a $4 dollar 18mm (or fitting size) and cut
the wrench in half and bend the box end straight.

2) cut the hard line going high pressure hard line going to the back of the
rack, yes the difficult one. Now slip the box end of the stubby on it and be
strong. It will loosen and be able to be remove.

3) make subtle bend corrections to the new line using the old one as a
guide. Then carefully fit the fat fingers back there and install.

David take you time and you can do it without removing the rack, but if you
need to do it. The car is down anyway you may want to replace the rack mout
bushings.

The key to my technique is the straight wrench, the angle on the head if
left will hit the firewall and RP spool valve and not fit.

Brian

Subject: Power Steering Help Needed

Ok, A few weeks ago I posted with a question about the pressure hose
on he power steertin system. I had spliced the line and it kept
blowing. I bought a new high pressure line from the potter people
that arrived last week. I finally have a bit of time this morning to
try to get it resolved so I can put one of these cars back on the
road.

My question is this... I have the line off the pump as that was easy
access. The end of the line that connects to the rack appears a bit
impossible to get to. Do I have to remove the rack to get to this
side? Is there a way to get to it without have to remove everything
from the engine bay? That bugger looks nearly impossible to get to.
Bently isn't much help nor is the Chilton that typically has anything
that Bently might have felt as unimportant.

Anyone?

TIA,

Dave
