Wiring Q: switched neg. or pos. which is better?
I agree with Larry. If you think about it from a safety point, if the
device fails and you disconnect the negative, the device still has full
power going into it. Only the ground wire is opened, but if there is an
internal short, power continues to flow and powers the device or "melt
down". If the wire feeding the device from the switch shorts, you can kill
the power. If it's the other way, hot wire comes from the battery and
that's a lot of current availablilty. (Of course all the power wires are
all fused and the arc will only last a split second, right?)

Probably safer to put the switch on the hot wire.
There must be a reason why it is done nearly universally that way.
