Proportioning valves

Hello all.  Tech time.



How does an adjustable brake proportioning valve work?  I know what they do, but I don't know how.  



I'm pretty sure I know how non-adjustable ones work (well, I've figured out a way they theoretically could work), but the adjustable ones are a mistery to me, as is spelling.
