Oil Cooler Retrofit question

I picked up a Turbo Volvo oil cooler from the parts yard, but left the
part behind it used to connect to the block.
What I came away with was the heat exchanger (wait- that should be
X-changer!), and the two hoses.
Already at home I had a thermo-sandwich unit that fits between the oil
filter and it's mount. The thing was harvested off a Rabbit GTI; it
had a single SS braided hose doubled back on the thing w/ no oil
cooler to speak of.
Now: the dilemma: The hose fittings on the Volvo cooler are a great
deal smaller in diameter than the GTI unit. (I call the thermo-adapter
a GTI unit but it is by no means the oil to coolant warmer/cooler unit
that came stock.)
The thermo-plate (I keep calling it something different, don't I?)
well it has these brass fitting screwed into it, and the braided hose
running to it is large and looks like those red & blue adonized stuff
you see a lot of in Mopar engine bays.
Can I:
- Find some adapter fittings to go from large to small sizes?
or
- Remove the brass fittings and insert some smaller on one end
fittings t match the existing hoses on the heat exchanger?
Right now I have just duplicated the GTI setup in that I have doubled
the SS hose back into the thermo plate for now.
Thx in advance,
