RE. Help major problems (now hopefully cluch problems)

Thanks guys for your replys.
I finally got some time to get under the car and turn the crank over slow
and it sounded like the pressure plate. When i had my tranny rebuilt last
year I put a new cluch disk, new pressure plate, new bolts, and a lightned
flywheel that i bought from techtonics tunning. I torqued all the bolts to
what the bently said, so i dont think that a bolt came out or anything. SO
if it is my pressure plate, would it by chance be covered by a waranty or do
i have to bite the bullet and buy an new one?

I didnt try your idea yet dave, and i hope you are wrong about my thrust
bearing, i will try that sometime this weekend to make sure.

THANKS!

Maybe its the pressure plate. I had one come apart on me one time. It
sounded very bad. Get under the car and turn the engine over by hand/ratchet
and listen carefully. Isolate the noise.

i would have to agree with john on this. i bought an '85 8v because it
sounded like a bolt flying around when the engine was running, worse when
the clutch was pushed in. seems that the previous owner didn't 1) use new
pressure plate bolts or 2) didn't use locktite on the old bolts and didn't
torque them down properly. new set of bolts and a rethreaded hole in the
crank and the noise was gone and it ran great. good luck.

Your thrust bearing is toast. You over revved it and messed it up.
Probably the reason why your head is loud is because your starving it of oil
due to the bearing pieces stuck in the pickup tube. The sooner you fix this
the better and it can be as easy as replacing the main bearings. The first
thing you need to do it check the end play. More than likely it is about
1/2". Then drop the pan and verify the thrust is bad. If it is, you can
replace it without taking the crank out (if your careful) then you won't
have to take the trans out. If the crank is scarred at all you will need
either need to replace the crank or get it machined and buy undersized
bearings.
First thing is first, though, check your end play! You need to pry on
either the front pulley or the flywheel (through the timing hole) OR you can
start your car, look at the front pulley, and run the throttle up and down.
I did this on mine when I had this problem and you could see the crank move
in and out about 1/2". Anyway, that's the first step. HTH!
Dave
