(Re:) ugh - part deux (tires) (no longer a rant)

actually, its been to wheelbendermender.com . when i bought the wheel(s)
from ryan, one of them was literally egg-shaped. there was no choice but to
send it out for repair. those guys did a superb job making the wheel round
again (literally, i was shocked). only problem was there was an issue with
the way that particular wheel center was machined, so even with a straight
wheel rim, it still would spin with a 'wobble' to it (radially, no axially).

---

ok, now to the good news:

just returned from the tire place, where i got a spare kumho thrown on (i
got a good deal on 4 of em, and the rieger only takes 2 of that size). didnt
even get the wheel balanced (i use that weightless balance
chopped-up-rubber-band stuff - but i am out of it, so right now its
unbalanced). threw the wheel on a mock-up chopped off rear axle beam in the
table vice in the garage. did some spinning, along with some fine machining
of the hub mounting surface with the dremel. shimmed the opposite side when
bolting the wheel back up, effectively changing the center mounting point
for the wheel (by about 1mm). went for a test drive and the vibration i've
had for the last year is now down to about 10% of what it was. its hardly
noticable. im freggin happy as hell.

so for now i'll just hope that my other theory for the vibration is not
true - i had a hunch the pass. cv is at its compressed limit, and that
jacking up the car for short periods of time would allow the engine mounts
to shift towards the driver side, meaning the vibration went away briefly
(few days) until the engine settled again, bringing the pass half shaft back
to its compressed limit and once again causing the vibration... we'll see on
that one.

vibration free (for now)
