ok, most listers know i tend to be the guy who collects all of the pics /
vids after cincy. i collect the pics in an attempt to do the leg work for
brett, so he has less work to do in trying to get the scirocco.org site
updated. i collect the vids in an attempt to get them to many of the listers
after the fact, by posting them from my site via bittorrent.
this year i'm going to try to make this easier on everyone. i'm going to
bring some mass-storage with me to cincy (200 gig usb2 external hard drive).
if i dont have a laptop by then (i will be buying one soon - i go back to a
sub in ~1 year, and laptops are good when you dont have anything better to
do for 3 months at a time), im sure someone will. here is my request for all
of you:
- if you plan on snapping a bunch of pics, and they are digital, please
bring the appropriate cord to transfer these pics to a computer. i will make
an attempt to bring one of those universal card readers with me, but im sure
murphys law will kick in and someone will have a funky format that the card
reader wont be compatible with - or you might have one of those cameras with
non-removable media (internal memory).
- if you plan on taking video (especially dv), i would also like to suck
that into the drive prior to leaving cincy. this will be especially handy
for any tech procedures that are done, as when i have the source video (dv),
i can work some magic with the recompression, making the result very small
and surprisingly detailed. if you are not taking dv-video
(vhs/8mm/vhs-c/whatever), please bring the tv patch cord with you. we can
transcode it to dv through my dv camera (basically the best way to get it in
digital format anyhow).
- as usual, the photos will be filed appropriately on the scirocco.dhs.org
site for all to see after cincy, as well as being burned to disc and sent
off to brett for the update.
- the tech vids will be recompressed and hosted via bittorrent, along with
some of the fun stuff im sure.
as a final note, i'll be bringing my sony dsc-f717 (5 mpixel still) and my
sony dcr-trv27 (dv camera with composite input-to-dv pass-through) with me,
along with 5 spare batteries and plenty of dv tapes/512 meg of memory stick
storage. i'll be doing my typical run around taking pics like i usually do.
i dont mind doing this, its my hobby, i like doing it. dont feel obligated
to bring a bunch of cameras/video just for the purposes of helping me out. i
dont expect you guys to suck up all of your time taking pics when you could
be talking rocco shop instead (kinda like scott rose doing linkage installs
the entire time, you know, that sucked :). besides, there are already plenty
of die hard photographers that will generate more than enough coverage
already (jason, eric, drew, dan, cathy), as well as the video end (myself,
brian wagner, anson).
the main point of this email is to try and organize the media stuff better
this year, so it isnt a collection nightmare after the fact.
thanks for listening :)
