IRS discussion

In my definition, a pure IRS would allow one wheel to move through its travel without affecting the other in any way.
  The VW's beam will not allow this, so BY ONE DEFINITION it is not a pure IRS.
  If you go by other definitions...it may be.

  ok, let me dumb down what Dan said.
  the scirocco rear suspension is made in such a way that it acts like a pure
  independent suspension (with a little bit of sway bar action built-in - due
  to the beam running across). the factory added a sway bar on top of this,
  since the beam didnt provide enough anti-sway on its own.
