Radio Shack sells a 2 temp heavy duty soldering gun. Works well on heavy
wire.
Hold the tip of the ring with vice grips (Man, they will get hot..)
Apply a bit of solder to the dry tip and allow the ring metal to heat. Apply
the solder to the ring and the wire. The melted solder will help heat the
wire and applying the solder to both will help the solder flow nicely.
