Semi O/T: Got a pickup with 2.0 16V, do I need Motronic?

Okay,
  It is off a bit, but there are many on here with 2.0 16V and CIS-E, so not 
too far...  I bought a pickup ('82), with a Passat 2.0 16V in it...  He fabbed 
it so that it uses all the Scirocco 16V FI.  It seems to run (we threw some 
fuel at it and it sputters), but I will not know how well until tonight as it 
needs a fuel pump.  I have been wondering before now how well CIS-E was going 
to work, and after reading Scirocco16Vs post on Vortex, I am not sure it is 
the best choice...  Can anyone here shed some specific light on what I might 
look for to make sure this thing runs without grenading?  The cam and head is 
stock 2.0 now, later is a different story (evil grin).  Any suggestions, or 
questions about the p/up are must welcome...

  Also, considering the license plate, "pikitup"...
